Inline Tuners on A 2x2 Bass

I have 4 inline tuners that I want to install on a 2x2 Bass. They've been sitting on a shelf for over a year with no box and can't be returned. I'm hoping that the worst thing that could happen is the pegs will have to turn in the opposite unnatural direction.

Any pitfalls other than that to be concerned about?

With your tuners, the whole housing will be mounted backwards on the headstock, so you gotta make sure there's enough room for that to happen.

Depending on their construction you may be able to convert two of them to turn "the other way".

Example - I have a set of Hipshot Ultralight tuners, a 2 + 2 set. I wanted to put them on a 4 inline headstock. (so this is the opposite of your problem, but bear with me.) They are constructed with an open gear that is held in place with a philips screw, and the tuner handle is held in place with an allen head screw. I undid the two screws, wiggled everything apart, then replaced the tuner handle on the opposite side of the housing. Took about 15 minutes for both tuners. I could have just bought two new tuners, but...

The only problem is that you'll have to turn them the other way around. I have a guitar with 3+3 Klusons installed backwards (due to a long chain of poor decisions) and they work just fine once you get used to it.

Sell 'em and buy a set with the correct orientation. What are the machine heads in question?

The tuners are irreversible and the wrong size to boot. I'm going to go with the original tuners and if they have trouble with the fat boy strings I bought then I'll look for a correct set.

Just check if you got enough space at the headstock for placing 4 inline with 2 mirrored tuners
