Input Jack Done?

Hey guys, my Sterling by Musicman SB14's input jack is giving me problems. When I plug it in, I get no sound, and I have to shake the cable to get it to work, and when it finally does, it cuts in and out and distorts... No this is not a cable problem, I tested the cable out with my other two basses and it works perfectly... I opened the bass up and saw no loose wires or connections, so I looked at the input jack and saw what looks like a burnt mark on the jack. Could this be the culprit?

Hi, I'm sorry that I'm not giving solution here, but I'd just like to add my own experience which almost the same as yours, but it's with my Fender Sting Sig P-bass which are notorius about that jack problem.
All I can do to cure it is just tightening the jack bolt as tight as possible, but no matter how tight they'll loose and give the same problem again sometime.

Is the ground connection really intact? You say you see no loose wires, but it sounds a bit like an issue I had with an Ibanez (passive bass, though), and when I opened it up I found the ground connection wasn't a cable, but instead a length of stiff bare wire. The solder joint had severed when I had tightened the jack ring nut - the rotation tore it off - but it still kept making contact to ground occasionally... it didn't look like a loose wire at first.
I replaced part of the stiff bare wire with a short bit of cable, so that the jack can be rotated a bit without the ground being severed.

Happened to me, buying a new jack fixed it. They sell them everywhere.
