input jack Q

Hey Tbers, I purchased a new switchcraft barrel input jack for my bass and installed it. I have been playing it for a while and I've noticed that my instrument cable would never securely snap in solid. My other bass has same input but snaps solid in there...is there an adjustment or is it just a bad one?

I apologize for my hasty anger, but, I have owned several basses with barrel jacks and have only had one which has never been replaced. I understand their purpose on some instruments, yielding a more streamlined look, but, to me, they have been nothing but trouble. There is no adjustment, eventually, the jack will no longer come into contact with the tiny contacts inside the jack, an annoying short will occur, and you will need to replace the jack at a rough cost of 11.00US. The instruments which have had these were lightly routed for a traditional 1/4" Switchcraft. On these, I can pull the jack, bend the much larger contact back, reinstall the jack, and keep on playing.

That's just my humble opinion though. "I'm not bitter"

Hope this rant helped....
Sincerely,

Same experience. The jack in my Yamaha was really bad (loose), so I replaced it with a new Switchcraft. That improved it some but still not a solid snap, and seems to come out a little too easily. I wonder if a different brand might work better.

Anyone know?
