Input on Genz Benz Shuttle 6 vs Ashdown Little Giant w/Superfly

I'm trying to decide between a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0-210T (or 12T) vs. an Ashdown Little Giant with a 2x10 Superfly cabinet.

Does anyone have any input or comparison information on these two options? Might be difficult for me to get the opportunity to get these tested towards each other (I can do a test of the Genz Benz, but testing the Ashdown is not an option).

I don't know if this will help ... but I ABC tested a Shuttle 6.0/12T a Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout 12" and a Markbass CMD 112P ...

IMO .. both the Scout and Genz Benz sounded better than the Markbass ... so I ruled the Markbass out right away

I was very torn between the Mesa and the Shuttle. Fortunately there was a bunch of talented bass player in the store and they worked on EQ'ing the Mesa and the GB. They made them both sound sweet!

In the end I chose the Shuttle ... My reasons:
1) Portability - The Shuttle is very light and my haul my gear around a lot

2) Versatilty - The head on the GB is QUICKLY removable which will allow me to use different cabs if need be.

3) Power. In the end the GB has more power (600w into 4ohms)

4) Accessibility. - The DI ... the Tuner out .. is very easily accessible ...

5) The built-in kickstand. The GB has a little kick stand built into the bottom of the cabinet. Extremely useful when you want to tilt back

6) Mute switch .. very useful .. especially if you use a wireless system. (The Mesa didn't have this)

7) Tone ... The reason this is at the bottom of my list is that the tone from both the GB and the Mesa were sweet ... so it wasn't tone alone that sold me.

I am very happy with my purchase and I have found Roger, The Genz Benz Product Manager ("Hasbeen" on TB) to very useful. He advised anEQ setting based on my bass and the type of music that I play that works very well for me indeed.

Finally this video on Youtube also helped and points out a lot of the features I talked about. ...

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Ashdown what so ever ... so I can't comment ...

i couldn't have said it better.. i must ad that just in case you ever need the customer support... Genz is right here in the forum. and by regular means, and their track record is truly stellar..

I hesitated to post because I've never played through any Ashdown equipment. However, I can tell you that I recently fell in love with the Shuttle 6.0-12T. That statement alone probably isn't a surprise - this thing is so popular for obvious reasons. I was just blown away with the sound, and then the portability. I've been using this thing on small gigs and rehearsals for over a week now, and if anything I'm even more impressed with it.

So, kudos to OP for the decision, and big kudos to G-B for such an incredible product.

@VroomVroom: Thank you :) I'm really pleased with it so far, too. Tested it out for three hours at the showroom, comparing it to Markbass head/cabs, Ashdown EVO III, a Markbass Jeff Berlin sig, and a couple others. I kept coming back to the GB and the full frequency response and the overall clarity it offered me. I was 100% sure once going out from there that this is to be my main amp for years to come :)

@hasbeen: Thanks :) See, I've heard great things about GB customer care, and your post sort of proves it, too :) Looking forward to getting to know my new amp and I'll get in touch with you guys should I have any questions! :)

The Little Giant heads look very cool. I look forward to checking them out in detail some day.

But, the Shuttle lineup is pretty solid, and if you ask me, the 6.0/12 is the darling of the line. It really hits an amazing balance of performance/price/weight. I have gigged with a Shuttle 6.0/12 on both electric and upright bass, and I was totally thrilled with its performance in both scenarios.

From one Norwegian to another .... Congratulations on your Shuttle!!! I know you're going to love it ... I love mine the more I use it ....

I've gigged with mine a couple of times already and it's great in practice ...

I too have been thinking of maybe getting another cab ... but I don't think I will need as I am DI'ing out to our PA system ...

I'm playing a fundraiser next month ... that will take place in a high school gymnasium which are usually quite large in size ... so I may consider getting another cab (renting one) just to see ...

In the meantime I will raise my glass of Aquavit (I love that stuff) and toast you ...

My grandparents and my aunt were born and raised in Norway ... so I am steeped in tradition ... just haven't developed a taste for Lutefisk .. but I love Surslid (that's pickled herring in english) !!!

ugh, lutefisk?!? I hate that stuff. *lol* I prefer pinnekjøtt (salted and dried lamb ribs). But I'll join you in raising a glass of Aquavit for Genz Benz!!! :)
It's kinda funny, all Norwegians have relatives in the US, the emigration was pretty high for a while. I did some genealogy research a couple years ago and found an entire (unkown, sort of) branch of family in Oregon. It's quite interesting.
Do you speak Norwegian at all, dbassman?

I played my Genz a little more yesterday, and I love the tone it gives. It faithfully reproduces the sound of all my basses, without coloring the identity of them all away. I was playing that Jeff Berlin signature amp from Markbass a little, and it sounds great. It sounds very Jeff Berlin. It did so on both my test basses, whether I used the piezo or magnetic pickups. I'm not saying the Jeff Berlin amp is not good, cause it is, but it definitely colors the tone a great deal. For my needs, the GB is just what I need and a much better choice.

I've used my Yorkville Bloc80B 15" combo for more than 20 years without a problem (except from a scratchy knob and two broken fuses). Now I look forward to 20+ trouble free years of GB playing. :D

HI Mr. Walker ... Actually I'm from Vancouver Canada ... That's where the winter Olympics will be held next year ... No .. I don't speak Norwegian ... I think my father has some cousins in Oregon though ...

I owned a little Yorkville 50 (practice amp) for a number of years .. Great Amp!! ...When I bought it had a 3 year "even if you break it" warranty ... great company great products ...

Have fun with your Shuttle .. do you have any gigs coming up?
