Inspiration/Help for a Band Name wanted...

In search for a Name for our Acoustic Band, i thought i might ask my Bassmates for some Inspiration.

Some Things I've learned about Band Names over the Years...

- You must never have to explain a band name
- The name must be concise and memorable
- It's good if the name allows conclusions to be drawn about the expected music

We started as "Woodpeckers" a few Month ago, but I have seen, that there is already a Band with that Name in "D", so a little Help would be great.

I think people calendar too much time worrying over and names. As long as it isn't objectively offensive,I really don't care.

Band names are definitely tricky. I found that there seems to be a lot of controversy over the use of the word "The" in many bands. Also if the name sounds catchy you have a huge plus, and that's sort of subjective (however if it's 'too' catchy you run the risk of it sounding cheesy). Yes you shouldn't have to ever explain it... and if you do, the story better be good..."references" to movies or shows are generally frowned upon, stuff like that. IMO the ideal situation is to invent a band name that can work well with a good logo. I also like one-word band names, which can be even more tricky. Good luck!

I screams "chill music". Plus, you get the advantage of being able to wear Volkswagen gear and it still applies.

As an example of the challenging nature of creating band names, this thread already has two bands with 'wood' in the name

It's always a challenge to come up with something. I usually just wait - sooner or later somebody will say something, or something will happen, that makes it all clear & obvious.

I disagree with the idea that one should never have to explain what the name means. Any question about what the name means can be the lead-in for a great story to tell.

There’s also the simplicity of using a person’s name - “The Dave Smith Band”. It doesn’t even have to be a real person, for example - “Jethro Tull”.

Start texting and see what autocorrect comes up with. Somebody texted me that they were barely waking up, but it came across "barley walking", which sounds like a good name for a blues band.

It's really not worth much time. Most names will sound silly at first but put good music behind it and the music makes it cool. Just pick one and spend more time worrying about the music. But if you need inspiration, there are hundreds of cool ideas in this thread:
