Installed some Area Js Today

... and to add a little to the confusion, here is the back of a recent Sadowsky HC for comparison...

Ok so these are the sadowsky hc that are supposed to have the design of the dimarzio ultrajazz... indeed thats totally correct you can see somewere on the web that roger sadowsky tells to larry dimarzio that the HC is inspired on the ultrajazz...

That pick dosent show up the ceramic magnets on the bottom because they are covered by a layer of copper tape that was probably installed by the customer, sadowsky dosent use the copper tape on the HC

I would be very surprised if the area J was just a rebadged sadowsky HC. It looks like the result of fresh R&D, which is very cool ... when one of the best pickup makes comes out with something new they're proud of its usually worth a listen!

I just ordered a set of Area-J 5s to try in my Sadowsky RV5 that has the Sadowsky HCs installed. I'll try to do some sound clips and we'll see what we hear.

How did you go man? How do the Areas sound compared to the Sadowsky HC?

Much more mids, less bass. More balanced and natural but less oomph. I ended up switching to true single coils.

Oh cool... I just ordered a set of Area J for my MIJ Jazz, I like old school tones, ala Roy Ayers and old school 60s funk and soul so I'm hoping these will do the trick and I don't lose what I love about single coils... My main tone is Neck pickup with bridge rolled back to about half for a kinda upright woody tone. Feel like rolling the bridge in a bit fills in that hollowness from the neck but obviously you get the noise with it which is why I went for the Areas... Hopefully made the right move...

That’s still one of my favorite basses! And there are still lots of sadowskys out there with those scoopy older HCs. I have not tried the latest sadowsky HCs, word is they’re more single coily.

it gives me an excuse to mention that the current DiMarzio ultrajazz pickups now also have a radiused magnet pattern like the areas, a welcome upgrade

Encouraging thread--I just ordered some Area J's for my Geddy (and I just posted a question about them before seeing this!). I currently have Model J's in it, and have also used Ultras in the past. Excited to try the Areas.

.... DiMarzio Area J Bridge Pickup

OTW to go into a P/J with an ALNICO II Duncan Antiquity I ('57) Precision Bass Pickup. I am thinking about putting an EMG BTC Control (18v) as the tone control.

It just seems like the best thing to do...
