installing a new eck problem

Hello Colls

I need your help regarding my issue.
I installed a new neck on my squier VM jbass and after closing all the screws and putting the strings i noticed that the action is very very low all the strings are tuching the fretboard
i raised the bridge to maximum high and and the action is still low frets are buzzing someone have any idea what is the reson?
i think mybe the neck pocket is high im not sure pls help me

If the neck heel is thicker than the original, that happens. Without seeing the pair, I'd guess that's the case.

The remedy is easy, You can thank Leo for that, just place a shim on the front of the neck pocket.

People are used to shim the back of the pocket in order to lower the action, but there's plenty of questions if the opposite is possible.

It is, it just doesn't look very good, with the gap and all obviously, but that's the price to pay for not-so-interchangeable parts.

Usually, if that happens, and there isn't any $2000 markings on the neck or the body , a few passes on a mill or with a router takes care of the problem.

If the resulted increase on the sustain is a problem, one can gouge either of the parts for less contact area if so desired.

Hi.

You're welcome.

You put the shim on the headstock end of the neck pocket, in front of the two screws. Since You then tilt the headstock end upwards from the body, it should give You enough adjustment on the bridge.

Well, I like to (and do) use a full pocket length wedge when shimming a bolt-on neck, but I think I'm alone with that in here at TB .

Just as with any shimming, go easy on the screws, too much torque and something will give.
