Installing a P Bass Bridge Cover

Hi everyone,

I just bought a chrome P Bass bridge cover and want to mount it on my PB. I haven't been able to find any specs for centering and placing it over the bridge. Does it butt up against the string ends? I'm kind of guessing where it goes from looking a pictures but I'd like to get more precise. Any Tips?

I would measure the distance between the screw holes. Subtract the width of the bridge plate. Divide by two. Using the result, Mark lines on tape parallel beside the bridge plate.

Lay the cover down place it against the ball ends like you say. Slide it to the rear so it's not touching the bridge anymore, sight the lines through the cover holes and mark the hole positions through onto the tape. Take the cover off, measure from the plate end to the marks on both sides to make sure they're straight and cover won't be at an angle. If you made an adjustment, put the cover back on to make sure it's not touching the bridge. If all is good drill and screw it on.

Just one other thing. You might want to check and make sure the screw-holes on the underside of the cover are burr-free, else you could wind up scratching up your finish. It's a simple matter of taking an emery board or file to the burrs first to get rid of them.

Use blue painter's tape on top of the finish before your drill. This will help prevent any cracks in the finish around the screw holes. Good luck!
