Installing Jazz pickups backwards ...?

I really didn't want to ask this question here, but I'm gonna do it anyway, So; Is it possible to install a Jazz Bass pickup backwards? Let me explain; the end/side of the pickup that has the hot/ground leads soldered on the bottom; Does that end ALWAYS have to be installed closest to the controls/jack plate? As opposed to installing it with the leads (?) at the ?(top) of the pickup cavity (providing your wires are long enough to reach the pots/jack plate). or does it even matter? and would it cause/create an out of phase tone if they're installed incorrectly?

Not a problem. If you need to do that, do it. It will function just the same.

As @ctmullins states, yes the pickups will work fine installed as you are asking about.

I gotta ask, what necessitates mounting them backwards?

Hey Thanks, So, I bought these Nordstrand NJ5FS pickups, and the leads were/are very long, or unusually longer than what I'm used to seeing on any other pickups; that, and the way they positioned the leads "suggests" may the pickups should be installed this way; but mostly it was the way long wires that caused me to think that. It/they sound Fantastic though; probably the best sounding aftermarket pickups I ever had.
