Interest in Colors

Is it weird that when shopping for a bass, I tend to steer away from wood grain/full body wood basses? Everyone here seems to love them, as well as everyone i know.
I always lean towards a black or grey bass. Nothing too bright.

No.

In my experience all natural wood guitars just look brown on stage under the lights from more than a couple of feet away.
I'd rather have a nice solid colour usually.
Brown just looks drab.

No, because it's down to personal taste for me, I tend to avoid sunburst finishes, while I love candy apple red and natural finishes (especially if natural finish is over ash!)

I'm kinda with you. I don't like brown colored wood basses much, but i love a good natural ash body.

As much as I can appreciate a beautiful wood grain, I personally don't care much for the lighter natural finishes (maple, etc…). Now, if it's a colored transparent finish, a see-through burst or even a stained/darker wood finish, that I could get behind.

When it comes to grey or darker colored basses, you're far from alone. The Squier P-Bass Special on the far left was the first bass I ever wanted to get. Although I ended up the Aerodyne first (the black one), I made it a point to grab one at the first opportunity. That was followed up by a Jazz, and even a Squier Stratocaster, all in the same color scheme.
