Interesting Frankenbass

This is Swiss bassist Lia Low and her #1. A passive medium-scale Squier Classic Vibe neck on what appears to be a standard-sized (possibly Vintera) Jazz body with an MM pickup in the neck position and the stock bridge jazz pup. You can also see that the bridge has moved closer to the neck due to the shorter scale of the Jaguar neck.

Looks cool and sounds great in the clips I could find.

She used to have a Fender high mass bridge installed and the larger baseplate hid the old holes. Not sure why she switched, but the holes would bother me, too.

First off, what a fantastic collision of parts to make something that works and does not exist "in nature"!

Second, perhaps this is "The Universe tapping me on the shoulder" trying to get my attention? There's an inexpensive bass that's revealed itself to me just the other day...one that I've been considering converting from a J/J to an M/M.

I've been looking at spacings for a MM bridge and P, looks like P is in trad position but MM is closer to bridge, Ida Nielsen did this w/revers split P:

Reminiscent of my Frankenjazz approach - added a neck humbucker (tho, not an MM style) and an an Audere preamp. Standard long scale. I can confirm that this setup rocks!

This is exactly the kind of project I think about doing a couple of times a year, whenever I see a new funky Squier or decide a medium scale bass would be perfect for me. Then I stop daydreaming, spend the money on whatever has just gone wrong around the house instead, and play the basses I already have.

It's great to see any player make the exact instrument that works for them happen, and presumably have a blast playing it. I don't think I've ever seen a J/MM combo that didn't have the bucker at the bridge.

Agreed. I can see them doing something like this in one of the quirky Squier series. I like that jazz basses body color also.

Do you mean father? "old man" is a boyfriend in hippy talk, "old lady" is girlfriend, both maybe common law spouse, long term partner.
