I don't think so. Violinist also have or had their controversies in bow holds (German, Franco-Belgian, Russian) and every other aspect of violin playing. Check out the books "The Way They Play" by Samuel Applebaum.
The only bass specific obsession inside the world of string playing is gear.
Interesting, I also hear something in three or four places. Like maybe a male voice whispering a short phrase in the background. Like perhaps an audio watermark?
The main speaker is very clear though, and I like the concepts that he's teaching.
Scott Haigh showed me this hold (he got it from David Perlman) when I studied with him in grad school. It made such an immediate improvement for me that I never went back.
