internet anti-virus?

Kaspersky is what I've been using the last couple of years. I wait until Fry's has it with the rebate deal.

Norton blows... complete bloatware. My T61was soooo slowww. Dumped it, moved to kaspersky and ...back to normal.

Far as the Mac PC thing goes - got both, Linux too. Love the mac for some stuff. Love the PC for some stuff. ...answering 'a mac' in this thread was at best, not a thoughtful response.

No snarkiness, merely an answer. I suppose an anti-Mac person might think it's snarky.

As to AppleCare, yeah I recommend it. When my first machine was 1 1/2 years old the Super Drive went down. It was repaired free. I also got a new keyboard and mighty mouse on them. The older mighty mouse has issues with the scroll ball.

I was just asking about Apple Care because it seems that Windows users pay for software protection but Apple users pay for hardware protection.

I run Avira free + superantispyware on one computer and Cloud Panda free on the other. I like the cloud panda for it's lack of having to do any maintenance or updates because it runs entirely off the cloud as far as the updates and virus database goes. Totally no maintenance required.

When the people in my area who fix your viruses for you recommend Avast and AVG (the free editions of both) then i will go with one of them. I'm currently using Avast, i prefer it to AVG.

that and run spybot search and destroy and Malware Bytes each once a month.

my old work computer had virus problems many times while i was there and only using work approved sites on a computer with norton. thats a pretty big red flag to me

There seems to be a widely held view that the free AV software is better than the paid-for stuff. My opinion is that paying money for protection of anything is almost always a rip-off, if you can afford to protect it yourself. Fear is a great marketing tool.

it's OK no need to slash at each other with headstocks:D,,lots of really great answers here and in fact i was told`Mac' by a neighbor who stated he's NEVER had a virus issue

problem is,this is the wife's PC,she was first to learn anything with one by working at an insurance company, myself it's all about fishing, cars, guitars, motorcycles, guy stuff

eventually i'll buy a laptop, and(from what the wife says) we need more storage for Norton 360 to work better, myself i'm building my stack:D and i hav a couple open guitar stands that really would look good with a fretted J and a 5-string of some sort filling them up;) that's MY kind of storage:cool:

peace ya'll,relax/THANK YOU ALL:bassist:

I'm still of the opinion that you get what you pay for, based on my experience and that of others. I guess I'm just lazy and want a one-stop, zero maintenance solution.

you are the best antivirus money can buy - no pornography on the web (though I don't think at your age you're doing that), don't go onto a site unless it's been recommended by three other people, or unless it's been recommended by another dependable site.

That's true to some extent, but any computer online is vulnerable without a firewall, even if you only ever visit safe sites. Virus protection is just one aspect of general online safeguarding.

Yeah, but thats like cutting out 99% of what makes the internet fun!?!?!?! Might as well buy an encyclopedia set and look up info analogue style!

It's amusing to consider that we all pay tribute to the anti-virus gods in some way or other, with no way of knowing whether one form of protection is actually better than another.

I'm reminded of Pascal's Wager for some reason. :hiding:
