Hey guys,
So I've been playing for 11 years, roughly. I recently had a period when I wasn't playing as much as I used to, so I lost some speed and stamina. Now, I've also been going to the gym for a few years now. So I figured...
I've been doing interval training at the gym, for my cardio. Now, cardio being basically training the heart for stamina, and the heart being a muscle like any other, I figured, why not try to apply interval training and other cardio ideas to finger muscles stamina? If it works for one muscle, should work for all of them, right?
Interval training, for those who might not know, is a concept based on going pretty fast for a short time (30-45 seconds), and then slowing down to a manageable speed for a longer period (90-120 seconds), and alternating like that a few times over - hence the "interval" concept.
I figured I could try to find the tempo at which I can line up sixteenths for as long as I want to, cranking the tempo up a bit (by 5-10 bpm) and using that as my "high speed interval," and then going back down to sixteenths at a comfortable and natural 120 bpm in between.
Has anyone else ever experimented with something like this? This could be applied either to the plucking or the fretting hand. With some discipline and thrown in with my regular playing and some other finger exercises, I guess this can be worth a try.
