That's the genius of marketing and advertising ;) Ever notice your burger from McDonalds' looks no where near as good as the one in the commercials?

Definitely try some of the brews people are suggesting here because some of them are quite good, but even after that if you don't like it then don't worry too much. It can get expensive anyways ;)

Belgian beers are great, Blue Moon or Shock Top with a slice of orange is the best, but that Sunset Wheat is really good too.

If you can get your hands on some Flying Dog, I really like their Heffeweissen.

I've also tried something that was called a cask conditioned beer, and it wasn't carbonated (or the beer equivalent, I'm not too sure) and served almost room temperature, but it was fantastic. Hoppy, but not too bitter, as I have a hard time finishing IPAs, and because it doesn't get any of the bubbles until it's served, it doesn't make you feel as full and bloated as some other beers.

I've never thought of DT as "fruity" but that's subjective. Damn delicious though, however you'd describe it.

Warning: 9% alcohol and doesn't taste like it, so one is the equivalent of two regular beers. Go slow. A DT binge is responsible for the only blackout I've had in the last five years.

I'd agree with it not being terribly fruity, although I suppose there might be some slightly fruity notes to the aroma and a slight citrus taste, which I'd generally say is eclipsed with everything else that's going on. DT is like an explosion of everything at once!

Another favorite tripel I like is Tripel Karmeleit, which isn't as quite as strong, but not as dry, with much more citrus vibe going on.

Yeah, DT is very strong, so be careful. ;)

I know its not sold as a fruity flavored beer, wait, I think I see what you did there. Did you do something there?

I meant a beer with a hint of fruit flavor, not, the kind of beer you'd drink in a gay bar.


Oh, seems I made a mistake, its the Delirium Nocturnum that has the fruity taste.

Delirium Nocturnum pours a rich brown/ruby color, with a thick tan head that leaves a slight lace on the glass. It is mostly clear and has some carbonation.

The hops in Delirium Nocturnum become more present as the beer warms to room temperature while the alcohol smell becomes more present as well. While drinking, the ‘mouth feel’ has a full, rich feel with little carbonation, but runs fairly smoothly, with a soft, medium-bodied feel.

The taste is complex. It has a bouquet of aromatic sweetness with apple, berry, and honey maltiness and a hint of sourness (the smell can be a little similar to a brown ale). A little bit fruitier and thicker yes.

To me "fruit beer" is more like the fruit flavoured lambics you can get. Tasty but more than one or two gets too much.

Yes and no. It somewhat depends on why you drink and what you drink. I can get a nice bottle of liquor and have it last me a long time because it only takes me one or two small glasses to catch a good buzz. In contrast I can easily go through a pack of beer by myself in one sitting and only get a similar buzz.

If you drink good beer simply because you like the taste, then this isn't an issue. Drinking for the effect is the cause of all drinking problems...sooner or later.

One thing I LOVE about Pilsner Urquell is that it is low gravity yet full bodied. You can drink a couple of beers easily with a meal and not feel a thing, yet it has all the taste of a heavily hopped pilsner. Indulging in several is pretty easy versus a beer that is 5 or 6%.

Sort of. You'll see different ways of notating, such as ABV (Alcohol by Volume, which is the most typical way in the west), and ABG (Alcohol by Gravity).

I suggest you go to Beeradvocate.com and spend some time reading up on beer styles, alcohol content, how different beers are brewed, etc. They used to have a Beer 101 section, and reading this would make it a bit easier to understand why you like something beers and not others at this point, and it'll help you pick out new beers to try so you don't waste your money.

The key to enjoying beer- get a somewhat easy to drink one, work in the hot sun for a little bit. Then crack open the beer (make sure it's ice cold), and chug the can.

I learned this at Bonnaroo after setting up my tent in 90+ degree weather. It was just PBR, but it tasted so sweet.
