Greetings everyone. I just joined this forum, and wanted to say hello!
I am just learning to play bass guitar and trying to take in all the knowledge and practice all I can. Although I am new to bass I am not new to music, which I am hoping will help me as I learn to play.
I played clarinet for several years when I was young, was first chair in the band. Then I learned to play a bit of electric guitar during high school, also sang in the choir and in musical theater. During high school I spent a lot of time around bands as they practiced, singing some backup and playing tambourine.
I was accepted into the music program at the university, music minor to be specific. But the time even the minor program required was too much for me. During that program I took two semesters of music theory, along with some ear/pitch training and picked up a bit of piano. I also joined a rock band as their lead singer for a few months.
After college I continued in community musical theater off and on.
I recently decided to sell my electric guitar, and traded it in for a used Epiphone bass. I miss those days of being involved in music, so I am trying to get back into playing again. I have bought a beginning book by Hal Leonard, along with a DVD to help kickstart me. I know lessons with a teacher would be ideal, but the money is not there right now. Hopefully in a month or so I can do that.
Music theory is coming back to me slowly. But please forgive me if I post something that seems inexperienced or unintelligent, because I still need to dust off and blow out the cobwebs from that part of my brain. lol.
I am looking forward to being here! Thanks!
