When someone calls that tune, if I don't hear that one-two-three-BAP! rimshot at the beginning it just throws me off for the whole tune. Like Ray Charles singing "Georgia", I hear it that way and I always will.Man it’s hard to listen to any version of Killer Joe other than the Quincy Jones one with Ray Brown and Grady Tate because the pocket on that thing is just so deep and exemplary of the finest swinging ever recorded. That’s one of my go to tracks for inspiration on what swing should sound like.
