When you click on a member, you can get a google map to their house, along with a picture of it. This is a massive privacy invasion. STOP IT.

Edit: TalkBass does not collect address information. If you have your address in your profile, apparently there is something that displays a google map to it? I have been unable to duplicate this map behavior. But the only info we have is the data you put into your own profile. You can choose to hide your profile as well, in your privacy settings:

yeah some of the built in features could go sideways if not knowingly curated by members.
I tired to replicate this with my location (listed as NYC) so it only shows the whole city. (I would hope in the modern age ppl would generalize there personal info for the 'intertubes')

I can turn this off as it doesn't really serve a purpose, but know that if someone puts their address in their profile, you can go to Google Maps and do the same thing with it. We don't have any secret location information in the database.

They only one that has my name in this website is you, because I paid for my lifetime membership with a card. No one else has any more than a first name and the town. My house shows up in google maps from here. How is google maps doing that with a first name and a town?

I just tried it, and you're right. I have deleted my location from my profile, but it still takes me to my house. So yes, please turn this feature off.

I would agree with Sissy on this, this should be a "opt in" only choice and should be off until selected on by the user.

Just make the "location" info plain text or something, or have it automatically add null characters, so if someone wants to identify their location it'll still say "NYC" or "Arizona" under their userid, but it's not linked or linkable.

It takes you to your maps application, and the application cannot find a location called "Caution this will show your house on a map." In my case it's Google Maps, and by default it shows my location, as I'm sure it will do your location for you.

So it does, and it does not. Schroedinger's cat comes to mind.

Hey sissy kathy, You may want to try logging out/clear cache/(+ quit app and restart computer.) to ensure a 'clean starting point' after your changes

PS if you have location services 'on' in Google it may be taking you there 'by default'. (I have my location services off, and Google just hovers over the city)

When I click your location google tells me "it can't be found" Everyone else in this thread shows 'where'/what they typed (generically either city or state)

Yep. We don’t have your house on record. You either have location services on or cookies being saved that is auto loading your location.

I just cleaned my cache the other day, but not cookies. And I don't ever turn location services on for my home computer. I only have location services on for my phone when it is needed.
