Iweve had this option on some forums for years, but it was an opt in option and you could limit it to the city, not a specific address, which I don't mind.
If the site is giving exact address with the gear some of you guys have, it would definitely worry me.
I haven't even looked at the Map so I don't know how it works or exactly what it shows , but I can see the reson for concern if it's showing anything you don't want seen.

When I click on my own location, it is showing my my own home as an icon because it opens in Google maps where my address is saved. When I look at another member's location, I see a general area or city, but not specific home / house or address.
Try logging into talkbass from an incognito tab, follow the "address" link and I bet your home icon will not show up.

It is opening a Google map...I bet you have your address in a Google profile? Test this on another users "location" and see what you see.
Only if you put your information in. Why on earth would you do that ?? Especially if you are so concerned about your privacy

On a more up-beat note: As a common courtesy, I believe psychotic serial killers are required to call you at least once upon gaining entry to your residence. It won't end well but it's nice to know there's a modicum of civility still in-play.

I'm not entirely sure that this isn't a violation of privacy. I say this not as criticism - I'm a long standing member and am patiently waiting for the "bugs" to be ironed out - but I can tell you that for professional reasons, inclusion of my address in searchable form on a bass enthusiast platform is neither consistent with purpose nor is it something I would EVER want to be so easily found UNLESS I gave permission. If you do not change this, I will no longer be able to support this forum.
I'd recommend this - ask all users what their top 5 asks are now and amend accordingly before you run the risk of losing anyone. I truly value TB and I hope you can sort this all out.
Maybe I am not understanding this issue...when I click on your "location" in your profile I see a general map of New Orleans, but nothing to indicate where you live. What am I missing?

So you guys are posting your real life addresses on the web? I mean... There's a history of articles on the web spanning all the way to the beginnings of the internet explaining exactly why it is unwise to do so. You might want to educate yourself about security risks putting your personal information on public display, especially if you're older generations.

The mapping feature appears to be working exactly as it did in the previous incarnation of TalkBass!
You guys have done a nice job on the site upgrade. Personal info is on the user IMHO, don't want ppl to know where you live, don't add an address. Adding an address, would be user consent, however the demographics skew older and many might not even know anything about online security so it's probably best practice to not have the info displayed.
