Maybe I am not understanding this issue...when I click on your "location" in your profile I see a general map of New Orleans, but nothing to indicate where you live. What am I missing?

I'm referring to the Google Map reference to which others have stated. It's a point of clarification. If it doesn't exist then there's no issue.

When you click on a member, you can get a google map to their house, along with a picture of it. This is a massive privacy invasion. STOP IT.

only if you provide the address to start with... and I would not recommend that. General area, even a postcode... why not, but never the exact address.

They only one that has my name in this website is you, because I paid for my lifetime membership with a card. No one else has any more than a first name and the town. My house shows up in google maps from here. How is google maps doing that with a first name and a town?

Are you sure the link is not showing YOUR current location, as detected by Google? When I clicked on yours to confirm, I got my area here in Scotland.

I just cleaned my cache the other day, but not cookies. And I don't ever turn location services on for my home computer. I only have location services on for my phone when it is needed.

I'm not entirely sure that this isn't a violation of privacy. I say this not as criticism - I'm a long standing member and am patiently waiting for the "bugs" to be ironed out - but I can tell you that for professional reasons, inclusion of my address in searchable form on a bass enthusiast platform is neither consistent with purpose nor is it something I would EVER want to be so easily found UNLESS I gave permission. If you do not change this, I will no longer be able to support this forum.
I'd recommend this - ask all users what their top 5 asks are now and amend accordingly before you run the risk of losing anyone. I truly value TB and I hope you can sort this all out.

I'm sorry for the confusion my response generated. Google Maps will load the location that a user puts in their profile (ie, Texas). If you're on your phone and have location services on, Google Maps will probably display your location. It's not pulling information from TalkBass (we don't even have that info if you don't put it in your profile), but rather data from your phone location. Like when I load Google Maps app on my phone, it shows my location.

No, I'm not sure. In fact I never gave my street address to anyone but google maps for use when I'm using the GPS feature. So maybe I cried wolf through ignorance. From the responses I've seen posted here, it looks like that's what I did. I guess a spanking is in order. That could be fun.

There's a history of articles on the web spanning all the way to the beginnings of the internet explaining exactly why it is unwise to do so. You might want to educate yourself about security risks putting your personal information on public display, especially if you're older generations.

Why do you think my location says "Europe"? Because no one has any bussiness knowing exactly where I live, unless we're privately arranging a bass or gear trade for example. But that's between me and the buyer.

Generally, if you're using Chrome (whether you're "signed into" Chrome or not) and/or if you're signed into Gmail, this is a feature you will need to explicitly turn off on every device - it is turned on by default (and it will track it across sessions if you sign into the same account on your phone with services enabled).
