Iron Ether FrantaBit

No, but I giggled quite a bit after reading this!

FrantaBit is crazy fun. It is a very versatile and usable pedal once you really get familiar with what the bit rate and sample rate knobs do, and how they interact with each other. I've only had two nights with it so far, so I imagine more awesome will be unlocked with time.

So my board is ripped apart at the moment with a few pedals sold and shipped, my guitarist taking back his OC-2 for the time being and me trying to figure out how I want to rewire the whole thing when my new stuff arrives.

So last night I decided just to hook up the Xerograph and Frantabit. I am amazed at the sounds possible with just these two boxes and an expression pedal. Using the Franta to feed the Xero gives a ton of great sounds but it's also fun to run the FrantaBit after the Xerograph. Fun to degrade the envelope sounds. And after hearing kevteop's bugcrusher samples I knew I could get some formant filter like tones this way too and I did. Very cool stuff.

Made me very happy that I've got a Flip Flop coming from this1smyne to be able to move the Franta around in my chain.

Also made me impatient to get my whole board together since just these two pedals alone could do so much.

Tomorrow will be a good day!
I've just paid the import duty/UK carriage charge on a Frantabit and Xero Deluxe.
Which for this delivery, the random import duty gods kindly charged me £42.83/$68.20.
It's a license to print money this import duty thing.

Photo's and hopefully clips to follow.

jebus. seriously, i've asked in other threads, but is there a way for y'all to buy stuff and ship it to some America Based TB EFXor then have us ship it to you as a gift to avoid all that?

woof.

although, if you're GOING to get raped for some pedz, those are top of the list in the Worth It department.

Hey Ben,

Of course, It's all worth it in the end.
I've now gotten used to the import duty/extra random (mis) handling fee's.
I've compared with other TB folks who purchased the same products and got different amounts each time, and the margins of difference were HUGE!

I'm a bit hyper about the pending new additions, so no negative thoughts of customs will detract from the fun to be had!

Here's a quick little ditty I put together to show the Frantabit by itself and doing some sweeps with the Xerograph. It's a little wild, probably due to a case of newborn induced sleep depravation, but whatever it was stupid amounts of fun to make...

Bacon 'Slposion

This didn't help my desire for these great pedals. I hadn't thought much about the Xerograph until now. At this point I "need" three of the Iron Ether pedals, these two and the Reverb.

emjazz, I know the feeling...

I just received a Nimbus yesterday bringing my total IE count to 4! It would be kinda ridiculous if they didn't sound so damn good together, but all four combine to make this insanely versatile and beautiful monster. I restrain myself on a daily basis from buying the QF2 but I'm sure my resolve will break soon!

I also want to say that I agree wholeheartedly with Jared about the placement of the FB. It is very difficult to decide if I like it better before or after the Xero. Before it, it gives some very interesting harmonic content for doing sweeps and as Jean stated, can get downright creepy. Placing the FB after the Xero dlx in envelope mode can give some of the craziest "talking robot" bass I've heard. Pair this with an octave pedal and some fuzz and it's getting into Daft Punk territory. I do have a Loop Master flip flop pedal coming soon that I was going to use for something else, but now it will definitely be used to flip the FB. Can't wait...
