Double Bass irving sloane machine heads

Are these what you are looking for?

No, he wanted sloan tuners that could be used with sideplates.

They're very expensive, but very very good. My bass, a Shen, had nice brass tuners that rattled and had a lot of backlash. The Sloans are dead silent and extremely precise--no backlash, no slop. They are very slow though, in that you have to turn them a lot to see a in change in pitch. Changing strings I always use one of these things that attach to a cordless drill.

They won't really make you play any better, but they will make everyday tuning corrections easier and more pleasant

The ones on Gage's site look the same. Are there special versions for side plates? I wasn't aware that they made those.

they are a stand alone tuner,i believe that is the point, the only great deal i suspect would be a used set (fitting required) that someone would part with.

That's my understanding as well. What seemed confusing was this, in response to michaeln's link to the pics:

Sounded like PB+J was suggesting that there's another option.

If I'm not mistaken, these machines are made in the Phillipines. There have been reports that these machines aren't machined as well as the Sloanes.I think that Jeff Bolbach used similar Phillipine machines but had a machinist clean up the gears.
