Is 4 ampeg 810e's with a GK 2001rb ok to run?

So Last night I ran 3 Ampeg 810e's off a GK2001rb left side, the amp is set to dual mode, i have 2 spekon cables connecting 2 of the cabs directly to the amp, and the third cab was daisy chained. I just picked up my 4th cab today and it only has 1 1/4" input (mid 90's model)

here are my questions

1. Is running 4 cabs off this bad for head
2. should I use Bridged mode
3. Should i run 1 spekon to one cab and daisy chain the rest
4. for the spekon-less cab: any issue using a spekon/1/4" converter cord, or can I daisy chain the 1/4" cable out of a cab running speakon input for it's power

A better question: since the 2001RB is a 2ohm head, and each 810e is a 4ohm cabinet, why are you trying to run more than two cabinets?

You will need to make or buy a series parallel box for four cabs, so you end up back at 4 ohms.
The amp is 2 ohm minimum and should run well and cool into 4 ohms
and you will have loads of headroom if you put the cabs together for good coupling.

Am i correct that you are trying to run four 4ohm cabs with one head? This is a recipe for disaster with any head on the market without an external power amp

Uhm, the 2001rb has two seperate 540 watt power sections, each capable of 2Ω operation. You shouldn't use bridged mode, since, as far as I can tell, it's 4Ω only, and if you use speakons you need the two pole variety so that the ampegs don't see the signal for the 50watt bi-amp. Daisy chaining will work too.

BUT, he could also use it 2Ω per side NOT bridged.

So what's the damping factor of the amp at 2 ohms, I bet the amp controls the loudspeakers better bridged at 4 ohms especially in the VLF range.

Damping is not a factor. He's going to run long speaker cables that will have a greater effect on damping than the amp itself.

IIRC, running a stereo amp bridged at 4 ohms with have the same damping factor of running it stereo at 2 ohms.

1. As long as each cab is 4 ohms, and you run only 2 per side in stereo you should be fine.

2. No. Bridge mode does 4 ohms total. In this case only a single 8x10 cabinet.

3. Any way you want as long as it's only 2 per side in stereo mode.

4. No issue. Either is fine.


Just to be clear:

Ampeg 8x10e cabs are 4 ohms. The 2001RB does 2 ohms per side in stereo mode. Two of the 8x10 cabs make for a 2 ohm load. Honestly I don't know how you didn't mess up the head running 3 of them off one side. Count your blessings and don't do it again. Bridged mode is 4 ohms, that means 1 cab.

A better question than that is "how did you come to the conclusion that THREE SVT810s weren't enough?"

my question would be what you gain by using all that speaker from a single amp,aside from the rush of standing in front of four of those beasts....as i recall the svt was designed to power 2 8x10 cabs with 50 watt drivers.....the later cabs can handle double that....would not a second head/power amp driving the second pair of 8x10's make better sense

Why use a second amp when 1 will do the job? Unless he wants a half clean, half distorted stereo setup.
