BWBass-
Glad to see a Warmoth rep here. That being said, I have been having serious issues with the last order I have, which has since led me to question my first post here.
The original neck was quoted by a sales rep, and I was contacted 2 or 3 weeks later, and told that the shop would not make the neck, because they did not believe the wood would be very compatible with the glue (re: the scarf joint). No harm done, I figured it was the right thing to do, and am happy that much thought and consideration goes into custom projects.
Well, in the interim, I got an offer to post this bass in a pretty well known store in town here, but there were some requests for an eight string. So, since Warmoth had not started on the neck, I ordered an eight string neck, with relatively the same options, dots, frets, materials, etc...the only difference was I requested a paddle head on the eight string neck, and after the salesperson checked with someone, was told this was do-able, and would get back in production ASAP.
So, back goes the 4 string bridge, I order an 8 string bridge, and work on finishing up the finish.
About four weeks later (last week), I get a call saying the neck was done, but Warmoth could not install a nut, and that the shop was not confident that it would hold up to eight string pull. When I asked why, he said that they were not set up to install 8 string nuts with a 1 1/2 inch width, and that 8 string necks were made differently. I reminded him that I did order an 8 string neck. After checking the notes I got an apology, and was told I would be first in line, but he said it would still be 6-8 weeks.
Not only that, but they said not that a paddle head on an 8 string neck is not possible, and my only choice was the style they offer. In my opinion, the headstock shape is one of THE most important distictions of an instrument, and was also one of the only reasons I commissioned a neck in the first place from Warmoth. So, I am stuck with something that I did not even want on this instrument, even though when I gave the go for it, I was told they could do it no problem. Now, my hands are tied, shackled, and otherwise bound in every way imaginable, as I had to already push back a deadline on this instrument.
So, here I am, seven weeks down, this project at a grinding halt, and no neck in the forseeable future. Warmoth would not even ship me the bridge, so at least I can mount it, without additional shipping, after I already paid additional shipping on the other hardware for that order to speed this build.
I can say my only consolation was the fact I never received that incorrect neck. I would have been severely beyond irate.
No effort was made to console me as a customer, who is now on his third try for the same neck, as time is ticking away on a project that should by all rights be finished. I work in a service environment, and had this happenned to one of my customers, we would have done everything we could to make it right. No such luck here. No effort to make it right, won't even cover the eight bucks to send me the bridge....
So, take it for what it is worth, I work in Contractor Sales for Home Depot, and completely understand that orders get goofed, I deal with it all the time, perhaps, I just drew the goof card, perhaps not.
