Sounds like your interest in bass stems from the fact that you dont think guitar is easy enough and you think any windowlicker can play bass and still get all the glory of being in a rock n roll band...i simply cant help but be offended.

Before you flay, yes its a blast to play. Learn to play and after awhile, when you hear a song, the bass will be the only thing you hear. Your wife/girlfriend will start thinking you are weird, you'll take her out dancing and hum the bass line, instead of the melody.
You'll also start to realize that alot of what you thought was another instrument, was the bass. Take a listen to Money-Pink Floyd. Thats the bass. Listen to Day Tripper-Beatles- Bass. Sunshine of Your Love-Cream-Bass.Now, duck, and don't ask questions like this again.

I didn't say I don't think guitar is easy enough. It wasn't really for me and I was always interested in bass but never really got that into it until now.
ARE YOU KIDDING?!? There isn't a more fun instrument in the world.
There's either something wrong with your sound system, something wrong with the music you're listening to, or something wrong with the room you're playing your music in.
Playing live can't be boring. It's too much fun!

YUP, and just think of all of the money your parents can save, what with you not having to actually purchase any gear. You can just go to G.C. and slap/pop whank a doodle all day long, on someone elses gear. No purchase costs, no maintenance, no set up costs, no strings to buy. AND you can try a new piece of gear out every day in front of your adoring fans. WOW, how cool is that ?

That's the sweet life for sure. Everyone in GC loves slap bass, you can even play along to the shredding guitarists all day.
And if you find the bass is too big, you could ask have they a banjo, thats easy too, only four strings(sometimes five), and small.
OK...I'll bite. If you're a troll, F off. If not, you really need to do a better job of asking questions. If you are really interested in something, and you want to ask for help from people who are abviously really into that thing (i.e. guys who would join a forum on centered around the bass), then don't start by pointing out the DOWN SIDES that are constantly shoved in our faces by those stupid bastards who have never taken the time to really play a bass long enough to understand it. (How's THAT for a run-on sentence?) Anyway...

well they do have an adequate inventory of short scale basses. Not to mention the a fore mentioned Banjo, as well as a ukulele. In addition to wind instruments, and percussion. Hey, yeah, maybe that is your calling, banging on things with sticks all day long to the ultimate delight of the G.C. staff and fans. And don't forget if you break something, no problem, they can still sell it as new, no one will ever know. AND you never have to worry about picking up after yourself either, that is what the G.C. roadies are for.
In fact, you shoud consider moving to an apartment next to GC, so you can be there at opening hours, don't want to miss the morning crowd.
