Is biamping making a comeback?

I run biamp with an Ampeg BSP pre into one of the newer Crown XLS amps. That powers an LDS cab with 2x10 + 1x15 neo. I love it. Instant sub when I need it without pummeling the 10's. Also in my little place, I can practice relatively quietly at night by turning down the 1x15 portion. It's crossed over in the Crown amp at about 90hz I think. No tweets. Great for distortion too.

800RB's rock. I will always appreciate what a monster amp they can be when used with the right bass and cabs as long as that top doesn't go below 8 ohms ! Never understood why they only had an 8 ohm tap from that tranny. Maybe weight, price, etc.

There is no output transformer in that amp.

Bi or tri-amped kit are easier when the boxes are active.
I use an active three way kit and I really dig it , a Invalid Link Removed with an active X-Over integrated and an active bi-amped Invalid Link Removed
It's pretty much plug and play , XLR out of my VB99 in the sub , the link to the top , bingo.

I've been up and down that road myself. Many of my former band's jazz gigs were at upscale wineries and festival gigs where using my homemade looking gear might not be entirely comfortable. Sometimes I just did it anyway, but I have always kept one stealthy flat black amp rack and cab around just in case. I'd love to see or hear any of your cabs (especially the one with the pole mounted top box), and of course your EUB as well.

Here's a biamped rig variant I have been shaking out this week. It's a curious blend of the old and new, which suits me perfectly actually. As many others have commented in this thread, it's really all about a careful integration of the right pieces. The Rane speaker controller I'm using makes doing it wrong really easy. ;)

I'll get a photo out next week or thereabouts. Am in Switzerland presently, returning next week. Not hard to imagine the cabs though, the pole is inserted into standard speaker top hats, the box below is a ported 1 X15 and the top is a skinny box like a 60's church PA with 4 X5s. It was built on a whim with leftover and yard sale parts.

My EUB is a lefty BSX Allegro, built by Dino.
