Let's face it, Korean, Indonesian and Chinese manufacturers are the Walmart of the music instrument world. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you pay someone $3/day to work vs. $150/day that you can sell a similar product cheaper. It's called the "easy road" and while I'm guilty of it because of my finances, I'm not proud of it at all. It's like when I go into Walmart to buy a belt for $10. I get home , put it on and think "what a deal !" Then ,a month later, the pleather comes out from the buckle and it's useless. With Squiers, the necks move with the wind ( ok, maybe not with the wind,but you know what I mean), the saddles on the bridge move when you replace strings or even simply play for an extended period of time, the bodies are made of scraps with a veneer over the top in some cases , the woods aren't seasoned, etc. So, who's getting scammed ?
i find with buying name brand you are paying whatever the price is for the parts for the bass then 10 bucks a letter on top that FENDER=$60
Show me 1 USA made product that's cheaper than the over seas version
You sure got that all wrong.
To me, one of the biggest problems with the Fender or Squire basses has always been the inconsistency you find between all their basses. Go to Guitar Center and play 10 different Fenders and you usually find a couple that sound horrible, a few that sound OK, a couple that sound really good and maybe one or two that sounds and plays amazing. Now, take a trip to a boutique shop like Sadowsky, or Nordstrand and start pulling basses off the wall and it's a totally different story. I think a lot of it has to do with wood selection. A company like Fender buys truck loads of blanks and turns them into basses. A shop like Sadowsky does a lot more hand picking of the woods that go into their instruments, so you have a lot more consistency between the instruments.
Now now, don't you mean that unless I agree with everyone that Squire rocks and that Fender sux, this thread will go down the drain?
I know. We cannot allow any opinions that go against the established flow here.
But still, I'd never buy a Fender when you can just as easily and more cheaply buy a Tokai, as I've found Tokais to be consistently amazing on a level which Fender doesn't come anywhere near.
Another point: I think a lot of the reason why people have a go at Fender is that they do turn out a lot of crappy stuff for a high price. Gibson generally don't do that.
interesting event just unfolded,..
my friend is a beginner that recently bought a new Squier. after 2 months he bought a Fender and is much happier! even this novice could tell the difference in the construction!
@Munji,...
of all people! lmao![]()

Once upon a time Fender bass and electric bass were almost synomous. Think James. Fender bass ads would mention the percentage of hits that used a Fender bass. I seem to recall it being 90%. Now there's many more options.
Be glad that you can buy a playable bass for $225. Which in todays world isn't a lot of money. In 1965 a Fender Bass would probably go for about that same amount. And believe me, it was a lot of money.
is my USA made better, yes. we all know that it is. but is it so much better than it should cost 5 times more than the squier. simply, no!
Anyone else tired of the recent rash of Fender sucks, Squier is better threads?

a similiar priced Fender smokes both Nordy and Sadowsky, IME. you risk your integrity with this type of post. you have the gall to compare an assembly-line product with a so-called boutique?!!
i've tried both of your recommendations against a CS Fender and the CS was MUCH better! amazing, isn't it!![]()
