True! One man's "worn out"/"beater" is another's "used up".
I've found used, no matter what, is still as much of a crap shoot as any new, including vintage. If you've never picked up a vintage/used instrument that, despite the "survivor theory", wasn't used up and worth far less than advertised, count your blessings.. You're the luckiest man on earth.
I'll just be over here taking the crap shoot that has built in returns if I'm not 100% pleased and a lifetime warranty.
All used basses were once new anyway and I guarantee that they played as good or better then.
