I've owned all three mim,mij,Mia within the last couple of weeks. And owned a squire in the not to distant past. It's hard to describe the levels from one to the other the step up can be small but they add up to big differences.
Squires are well made good basses, can have weak/poor electrics (not always), can take a good setup, sometimes poor hardware. Good but not flawless qc.
Vm range is a small step up.
Cv series is another step up and can rival the bog standard mim basses.
Mim great basses, a slight step up from a squire in terms of build. Finish is better and the electronics are much better, hardware is improved in durability. Quality control is better, much less qc issues.
There is a slight difference between the bog standard range and the more expensive mim models, the more expensive models used to be advertised that they got pick of the woods and better hardware some us, example off this is 99-04 p bass specials (passive) were advertised as such.
