Is Fender American worth it?

Here's two from this very thread:

So, have you still never seen it? Is it still a pet peeve?

I still haven't seen it on TB, and it absolutely is still a pet peeve.

American standard are good basses, in my experience , MIM Road Worn and Classic series are as good or better than the MIA standard...

This is a very specific example. Fender Road Worn and Classic series compared to a MIA Standard with the "as good or better" qualifier. Ever see or play one? They are extremely nice instruments. I'd say they are comparable in build quality but don't have similar features. If you want posiflex rods, high mass bridges or string through bodies, you don't buy a vintage-styled instrument like the Road Worn.

Get a cheap used MIM and a set of good used pickups from the classifieds here. With some fresh strings you could wind up with a bass that sounds BETTER than an american, at less than half the price of a new one.

Another specific example. The person is saying that if you mod a MIM you can end up with something that SOUNDS better than a American. That could be true I think if you bought some different pickups and a harness.

You might not agree but that person didn't say "Squiers and MIMs are better than Fender MIAs". They mentioned a specific aspect of the bass that could be "better" if you upgraded it.

Really? Really? One more time, bolded for your convenience:

You said you'd "never anyone say "Squiers/Mexican Fenders are better than American Made Fenders" on TB".

You can move goalposts and play semantics all you want. I just showed you what you said you'd never seen.

I'm not moving the goal posts. You are being pedantic. If you bother to read what people write rather than take small snippets from what they wrote out of context then you might see that.

Dude. C'mon. Just say you stand corrected and move on. No shame.

One more time for those keeping score at home. You said:

Alert, one of my pet peeves just happened in this thread. I've NEVER seen anyone say "Squiers/Mexican Fenders are better than American Made Fenders" on TB.

I gave an example. Here ya go:

American standard are good basses, in my experience , MIM Road Worn and Classic series are as good or better than the MIA standard...

Are you really gonna double-down on this?

Dude, it's not magic, you just have to read the threads to know what direction they are going to go!! These guys will ALWAYS contradict themselves, the fun is being there to call them on it when they forget what they previously said. Of course, like you pointed out above, they will still claim they didn't say it. As I usually say in these threads, if you are unable to tell the difference you should buy the cheaper bass. For those of us who know better, we will buy the MIA...

I don't argue with pedants who misrepresent what other people say. You've done it now with just about everyone you've quoted, including your "examples".

I still haven't seen it. You highlighted one small part of a sentence and pretended that's all they said.

Here's the full quote, so you can ditch the "misrepresentation" and "context" stuff.

I gave an example. Here it the full quote:

American standard are good basses, in my experience , MIM Road Worn and Classic series are as good or better than the MIA standard, I have owned a MIM standard and was an ok bass but you can tell that it was not as good as the MIA, I have owned an aerodyne, Marcus Miller and Geddy Lee that were ok just like the MIM, actually I hated thr Marcus Miller electronics. I have also owned higher Fender stuff: A select jazz that was beatiful but the pickup and preamp were completaly crap so I needed to spend fee hundred dollars to replace them, AVRI P and Jazz with the flash coat finish that to me is the worst finish ever, you could cause a ding just by looking at it.

So base on my experience: RW and classic series are the best bang for the buck but the MIA absolutely worth the price, no that they are better but neither they are worse.

Try as many models as you can and let your hands and ears decide.

Are you really gonna double-down on this? I guess you are.

I find it funny you quoted the whole post, but did exactly what I said again. You highlighted one specific part and are again pretending that's all they said. Did you miss the part about where they said MIM Standard are not as good as MIAs? Did you miss the part where they said MIAs are great instruments and worth the price?

AND I already addressed that quote. Again, more proof you don't read.

I'll quote myself :

It seems to me you're just putting words in people's mouth so it seems like what they said is more controversial or all-encompassing than it really is.

Yeah. I've learned. I got sucked into this rabbit hole. Never again.

Whatever man, the entire controversy is in your head. It's a rabbit hole of your making.

1. "This one particular MIM model I think is as good or better than a MIA Standard"

2. "ALL MEXICAN FENDERS ARE BETTER THAN ANY AMERICAN FENDER OUT THERE"

I don't know why on Earth you'd think those are equivalent statements. When someone says #1, they don't also mean #2.

I really don't know if I can make it any easier for you, so this is my last reply to you; you can have the last word.

1. You said you'd "never seen anyone say "Squiers/Mexican Fenders are better than American Made Fenders" on TB".

2. I showed you someone who said that exact thing.

At that point you could either simply stand corrected or play semantic games and double-down on your incorrect position. You chose the latter, and are being intellectually dishonest. It really is this simple.

Good day sir.
