I prefer the Fender. Jazz or a P. But it have to be with stock pup. If I don't like a bass as it is I would not buy it, basta.
While I like to listen to some music which is played on a MM, such as Tony Levin's great one on Peter Gabriel or King Crimson, I like the Fender better, specially if the bass is played with a pick.

One thing about the MM is the price, it is almost twice the price of a MIA P/ MIA J. For the price of a MM I would rather buy a Rick!

i prefer both brands. I own a Fender MIA Jazz and its very versatile and . I just played a '78 Musicman Stingray in the studio and I thought it sounded great on aeroplane. Very nice slap tone. but i used my fender for the other 5 songs our band did and it sounded awesome! Both basses can do things that the other bass can not do so i chose both.

I have Fenders and love them. For the look, sound and playability they are hard to beat.

Having said that, I also really like the MM tone in other peoples hands but personally I have been unable to get a good tone out of the ones I have tried.

So I voted for Fender. All hail the "F"!

I've had Fender P's and J's. My only fender now is a jazz bass special. I have two stingrays and a bongo, which I love, but I want another fender precision now!

So I can't really bash either. Overall quality probably goes to EBMM, but the "fit in the mix" sound goes fender IMHO.
