...to convert a 240 watt amp to 400 or 500 watts? I just ordered an ACME LowB-2, and before picking up a new 500w head (the ACME's need a bit of power), I was wondering if I could swap out the transformer or something like that and bump-up the output of my old RedHead (took the cabinet apart years ago--long story, but I still have the head) to provide adequate power for the LowB? Completely nuts?

You will be surprised at how little a difference in volume you will get going from 240 watts to 500 watts.
All things being equal, only about 3dB difference, which aint much.

Easiest thing to do is to buy a power amp and use the pre-amp out of the red head.

As an example the QSC RMX 830 will give you 830 watts into 4 ohms for a little over $300 from MF.

you cannot up the power of an amplifier by simply changing out the transformers,
all of the supporting circuitry has to be designed to handle and support the output of the amp, in which case, you would have to completely rebuild the amp...so, no is definetly the answer here... :-(
