You sure set your standards LOW. It just a cabinet.. albeit a very NICE cabinet. Best be more careful what you make jokes about. .
First, I don't think he was joking. The 8X10 is a pretty standard cabinet for a working bassist, either at rehersal or on a gig. I'd say that at least half of the bassists I know have one in their arsenal. Rest assured that while I certainly wouldn't build a shrine to and/or genuflect in the presence of an Ampeg 8X10, they are pretty nice. If the poster says it's god, he probably means it, and he's certainly entitled to his belief system. Rock on.
Second, please relax with a nice cup of decaf. "Best be more careful", accompanied by a smug roll of the eyes sure comes off as poor form eliteism, especially in an intelligent exchange of ideas among people (bassists, specifically) who are, IMHO, better and smarter than that. Leave the judgementalism at the door, or maybe take it elsewhere (a Guitar forum would likely be in order)
Ok, sorry for the highjack. YES, that's a deal on the 8X10. If it's in decent shape, I'd jump on it. It won't disappoint, and moving it about isn't bad as long as you can get the occaisional help. Keep in mind that it, like any cabinet, won't "fit the bill" for every gig, but it will help to cut through, and it's easy to hear from the stage without having to use a monitor. Have fun!
