Is it worth getting repainted.....

So I picked up a second hand OLP bass for $100. It's going to cost me around $100 to fix it up. The body has some pretty bad paint damage. (That's why I don't like to buy second hand). I was thinking about having the body repainted, that will be a least $200 or more. So that will be about $400 invested in this bass. I'm not planning on selling it because I know I'm not going to get that much for it. Is it worth repainting.....

Reranch has some great colors and great instructions and kits to get you going. Totally fun project if you are a DIY type.

From a purely financial perspective, I would say it doesn't make much sense to repaint this bass. However, if it gives you more pleasure to play the bass with a new paint job (especially if you have a custom color in mind that really floats your boat), then I would say go for it. Just keep in mind that it's doubtful that you will be able to re-coup much, if any, of the money you invest in modifications to this bass down the road if you sell it.

+1. Do it yourself - plenty of info available at Reranch.com and in Dan Erlewine's book on guitar repair (Amazon).

Well I'm not really a do-it-yourself kind of guy but this could be a good project bass. It would be a lot cheaper, that's for sure.

I would love to find an Epiphone Ripper and repaint it in black, but I'm afraid I'd totally F it up.

Fix up the bridge, pickups and more technical stuff. The bass is roadworn. Wear that with pride. lol
