Slap takes talent, and I think most who bash it are honestly kinda jealous.

There's a Youtube bassist who's user name is hjfreaks.
He slaps a ton of metal, and does a crazy rendition of Judas Priest's Painkiller.
Like I said, i've seen it more reserved, but to me it's one of those styles I always hear fast, you know? I love the sound at times, but it's not the sound I strive for.

A lot of metal guys are incorporating slap into the music because it makes string skipping easier during certian quick riffs and lends itself really nicely to staccato'd, syncopated rhythms. James Leach (SikTh) and Ryan Martinie (Mudvanye), for example, are guys you should really check out.
If that's true, then even accordion isn't "over" yet...no style is ever "over"
someone always plays it
Absolutely! I have a good friend who plays accordion all the time at his gigs or at open mics!If that's true, then even accordion isn't "over" yet...
Randy
Ahhhh........youtube! There you have it. Youtube does not a professional make! Point me to professional working bands who's bassists plays slap badly! I doubt anyone here can find any top gigging professional band that has a bassist who stinks at slapping! Most negative opinions are based on amateur youtubers and Guitar Center hacks! There's a Youtube bassist who's user name is hjfreaks.
Hey, leave Mark King out of this.Again, where are you guys hearing this? Please provide some examples! Youtube? GC? Local bar bands? Mark King?
As long as this sounds cool slap will never die.
The way it was intended to be played!

Uh, that's Victa! He's better than everybody! Andre Berry is Funk! I don't think you know your funk! Obviously you like that speed slap playing which is fine. But it's watered down slap funk! When slap came on the scene, it was all about the funk. Real funk! Hair is a Larry Graham composition. You know, Larry Graham, the father of slap bass!Someone seemed to go a little overboard with the flanger. Not my particular taste in music personally. I prefer funk or technical metal when listening to slap bassists
This guy is much better.
