Is Squier under new management? They are kicking @$&!!!!!

Maybe I should hit our local GC, try one out and then consider putting my MIM Jazz in the classifieds....
That bass would look absolutely SWEET with a yellow pick guard... with a big purple "W" on it...
I don't know, but I would assume that is the same company that makes Guitar Center's house brand Ocean, as IIRC Guitar Center and Musicians Friend are one company. I don't know if either of these brands are afilliated with Cort.
They are pretty open with the details really.

I believe Cort's own instruments are easily as good as their contracts, I would have to say that though, I own three Corts and two of their contracted Squiers!
Pretty impressive. I own a Cort Curbow 5 and a Conklin GTBD-7. The Curbow is a really decent 5'er in it's price range. The GTBD-7 is wonderful, incredibly responsive and all I have ever wanted in an ERB.
Would love to take a virtual tour of Cort's facilities. Can only imagine that it must be a sight to see considering they are building for so many other companies.
Fender's MIM quality has not improved a lick since I bought mine back in 2000, yet the price has jumped up by about 200 dollars. As far as I'm concerned, the entire line has priced itself out of serious competition. Squier on the other hand has also increased their prices, but much less substantially, and has also improved the line to match. I think it's cool that Squier is actually giving customers options in the entry level range. For under 300 bucks, I can choose between some very diverse options. With Fender, in the MIM price range, I'm looking at nothing more than Ps and Js in their standard trim.
And while many attest that Squier's quality is a new thing, and while I do agree that it has gotten better, I think there have been a lot of good products under the Squier name in the past. I have two Squiers and one MIM. The MIM is going up for sale just as soon as I can bring myself to bite the bullet and do it. I'll probably end up buying yet another Squier. I have an old 99 Affinity P bass, with a neck from 2002 Affinity P bass, and the quality of the set up I've managed on this bass is completely unrivaled by anything else I've played. And that's a fact.

I want to buy a 6er and I'm considering a Cort A6. I just wish someone had one in stock that I could try. Based on the quality of everything esle they produce, buying one online isn't that big of a worry. I wish Squier would come out with a Fender shaped 6er, that would rawk 
i just got my first squier ever.. i never thought i would.... but i love it, i own 6 medium to highend basses and this one is my main gigging and recording bass, the quality they are putting into those basses its just amazing, and for the price why not buy another one

I recently bought a VM P and I love the tone and especially the light weight. It has an amazing amount of tones that can be coaxed out of the tone knob. I'm a new bassist but been rock drumming for almost 40 years, so I've heard a fair share of good basses. I've owned several medium end basses and this bass came great brand new.
I now want a VM fretless as well.

Just came home from GC. I was really interested in comparing the Squier VM P bass to the new MIA Fender P Bass. After playing both for about 1/2 hour I have to say the Squier VM P bass held up pretty well for the price.
I liked the feel of the neck on the MIA, but, the action and sound were very close.
The controls/pots on the MIA felt smoother but the electronics on both basses functioned as they should.
The "Seymour Duncan Designed" pickup on the VM P was much hotter than the PU on the MIA. I really liked it.
Lesson learned, if I was looking to buy a P today, I'd think seriously about the Squier VM P. Put a beefier bridge on it, restring it the some DR Flats and change the pickguard (the white w/black PG is a little too chromatic for me) and I think this bass will sing.
So, 250.00ish for the bass, 100.00ish for the upgrades = about $350.00. That's about $700.00 less than the new MIA.

It is a great value. I have a VM J and VM Precision Telebass and I like them both...very good basses.
I actually like my Tele more than than I liked the VM P. It has a much deeper boomier sound which I like. Probably not for everyone though.

Cort does make the Lakland Skylines and the G and L Tributes, and they do a fantastic job on both.
