Is the Peavy Max 208 loud enough for rehearsals?

The manual says that it is only 120 watts RMS into the internal 4 ohms speakers and wouldn't support an extension cabinet even if it had a connector. The "200 watts" might be peak, which is irrelevant.
In my opinion this might be enough for a cozy jazz combo, but not for anything louder. I have no idea how it responds to a low B.

I use one for rehearsals in a live room with a 17 piece big band. It is more than enough to handle horns and rhythm section.
Thanks for that review. I've been thinking about downsizing to a smaller amp for our gigs. We are 3 pc with guitar/bass/cajon so thought this might be enough. But I don't have any place to go and try one. My Rumble 500 v3 has been great and reliable but it's more than I need for this lineup when it's basically a stage monitor.

The 208 is built like a tank. So it has some weight to it. Mine is living in the back of my SUV and is my go-to rehearsal amp. It's plenty loud and very flexible.
I have not even heard this amp but if you want a 2 x 8" combo the price ($399) is hard to beat. Reviews are kinda mixed but I would go with what people here who own them are saying.
The MarkBass is not really anymore powerful and costs more than twice as much ($949).
The only thing I would suggest is at this end of the price pool is to check out the Bugera BDX12.
It weighs 11 pounds more than the Peavey though but is "1,000 Behringer watts" which means it is probably more like 300 to 400 RMS watts into the internal speaker. But it will no doubt be a lot more powerful than the Peavey.
At $329 the price undercuts the Peavey by a good bit and both are made in China so it's a tossup in that regard.

I use one for small gigs and even larger gigs.
It’s not really giggable without p.a. Support . You’ll simply be working it too hard
It does have enough volume to cover the stage as long as you have reasonable stage volume from the other musicians.

Had never heard of that onw, time for research.
I do plug into the PA so thats why I want something smaller for a stage monitor. Space in the car and I'm old . Weight wise as long as it weighs the same or less than the Rumble 500 that would work.
Just hard to make a decision when I can't actually touch any of them before buying.
Sounds like the MAX 208 will fit your bill perfectly

The Peavey also has an effects loop. So you can run your own eq pedal and bypass the preamp if you'd like. It's quite versatile.
I used one at our last rehearsal...our band is loud...gain and volume were at about six and it does the job but I needed to also run through the PA and everything was fine. Can't go wrong, it's a great amp.
