I don't use the B2's compressor. I use an RNC 1773. Didn't help. I guess keyboard is still the best way.

is the zoom B2.1u worth it?

I did the Sci-fi patch last night...my that's a very cool effect...I have no idea how I'd use it...but it's cool
Man the patches on here are nice...I really dig the runaway patch and fingerstyle patches for my P-bass...

Maybe but at $400, I think the B2 will work for most people at half the price.
Been playing with the B2, and I think I disagree with those who think it doesn't have good distortion sounds. I just went through them and found some pretty good ones...I liked the Marshall Super Lead sound a lot...reminds me of the VT pedal a little. Got a couple good mild OD's out of it by tweaking the presets a little. I'm not a big fan of fuzz but I got a killer "Hey Hey My My" with the Fuzz Face sound and a little chorus.
Now to go try out some of these user-submitted patches...!

I did tweak the Super Lead patches to where they sound pretty much identical to my favorite OD sounds on the VT. Kind of bums me out, to be quite honest. I think that VT pedal's pretty amazing, but if I can duplicate its tones with the B2, why did I buy it?

i've been using tech 21 and zoom products for about 12 years now. the b2 series has some incredible sounds available and while i can make patches to emulate most sansamp settings i use, it's just different. not better or worse, just - different. the b2 would be perfect to me if i could apply seperate eq to the dry signal when blending.

my experiences have been the same...
I have found a couple of useful patches, however, because I get to employ someone elses ears (at least to start with
)And I have found some decent SVT tones on my own with the B2 and don't know if the Tech21 VT pedal is really worth it since I do have the zoom
on the guitar side (the "dark side"
) I've also been able to get some really sweet clean tube amp tones for my Yammy Pac112

I'm not as impressed with the B2's VT duplication patches during a gig as I was at home, BTW. They started being too middy, then they ended up being too bassy as I tried to correct them on the fly. Gotta tweak them out more.

Yeah the drives arent terrible but I find them to have that 'dry' digital quality to them. What I have found is that the amp model overdrives are much better sounding (to me) than the pedal models.
agreed...the pedal models aren't tweakable enough to get the "right" sound in most cases....
Ya, big difference in hearing them at home vs. on a gig. You think they're pretty good at home, but then you get there and it's all changed. Craziness. Distortion throws a whole new monkey wrench into trying to get a sound that works in a mix.

Right now I'm facing a decision: Last week, I was in a rehearsal with my band and brought my Zoom BFX-708. I'm pretty sure that I put it in my car after the rehearsal but two days later, for the next rehearsal, I noticed its disappearance. What hurts me the most isn't the money but my programming work. I had pretty convincing "One Of These Days" and "Cathedral" effects there and now they are gone. The thing is, I need them back for next Friday and the only stuff available in my town right now is the Zoom B2.1u. What would you do in my situation? Thank you in advance for your input!

The B2.1u does a bunch of things...not throwing your money away in my opinion...

That was my point, man. This morning I spent a lot of time at the store trying it. I know that everything sounds cool in those places, but having experience with the BFX-708, I must say that the B2.1u is a big improvement. The only thing I disliked is that edited patches cannot be renamed and putting it in bypass mode takes some time to get used to. Anyway, I bought it and just finished programming the "Cathedral" and "One Of These Days" effects. Much better than on the BFX-708, I think. I will know tomorrow.
Yeah, I know this thread is old, but this pedal is still sold(and used by many) so...
For bypass - you have to buy an add on footswitch, makes it very easy. But what I like even better is the sustain pedal from my electric piano(one of those nice pedals that looks and feels like a real sustain pedal. That is an excellent, smooth way to press for effect, press to turn effect off, hold to mute for tuning. Pressing two switches is almost impossible and way to stressful while in the middle of jamming at a gig.
Save the effects yuo like in the user banks and you will probably only have to hit the built-in switches to change effects - if you are using an add-on switch. Why wear out your internal switches and be tied to the pedal, when all you want is a little switching?
My favorites are the flanger, tremelo,wah and chorus. With some adjusting the synth WILL track better, but it still is a non-runner for anything other than really slow stuff, IMO. I just bought a guitarist buddy of mine the guitard twin G1XN for a b-day present(he won't get it for a few weeks) - he's been laid off for about a year and hopefully this will cheer him up.

If you ask me, I'd say save money on the zoom b2.1u. not only is it cased in metal, it also has xlr outputs and a ubs connector. also it has great sounding amp models and distortion channels.
