Is their a low gain Muff

If I remember correctly, the Tone Bender is closely related to the Big Muff, but it has one less gain stage, so it will be less clipped and less compressed. Might be something to look into. The Blackout Tone Reaper is a cool Tone Bender-based pedal by a cool builder.

I added the option of removing two diodes from a Russian muff with a footswitch, and it was almost like a Bass/Guitar switch, with the diodes out the compression was FAR lower, and the notes had a terrific bloom to them that my guitar-playing friend sometimes preferred to the normal Russian Muff sound. It's a sound I haven't heard a lot, and definitely not in any of the peds I own. Does the Sonic VI giant orange pedal take off from that Tonbender branch of the fuzz tree?

Yeah, I use it in the middle setting but I use that for my main sound. I guess I could mess with it again. I want the low gain fuzz to sound darker too which the GS is nice and present, which I think comes from it being a civil war/GGG hybrid. I do love my GS but i don't think it will be the other guy I'm looking for. Maybe you can look into making a new fuzz ped ryan. I think you got the market cornered in Overdrives ;)

The Hoof fuzz can do some seriously sweet low gain Muff tones.....and is crazy quiet. I believe the Pharaoh can do this as well.....I've got one coming to me so I can't speak from experience yet.
+1 I replaced a Little Big Muff with the Hoof and couldn't be happier. Does that sound really well IMO. Combines well with another OD for a different sound.

The closest I've got is a pigtronix disnortion with the volume turned down on the bass I was using. My normal dirt and tones are pretty present and have good bite. I want a ped I can run that sounds like a amp distortion with little high end and the tone pot rolled off and bass slightly boosted. The closest I've heard in clips is the music electronic mess drive hybrid +.

i know what you mean mr ampegfuzz - my favourite muff sounds are with the sustain right down, and i often wish there was a fuzz pedal that focussed on that very low gain end of things!!
currently my only muff is a grey stache, and that's dead nice with sustain at zero as Ry says.
what about a wren and cuff tall font? that's lower gain and from experience i had some great tones at minimum gain from a W&C tri pie

I use my Wren & Cuff Tri Pie '70 in exactly this fashion. The clean blend has the highs rolled off, so I favor the clean side, keep the gain low and level high for that kind of sound. I could record a short clip to demonstrate if you'd like.
