I want a pedal what makes crazy tapping from root notes.

Tbh I’d forgotten about the steel leather. Can get closer to the pick tone.

I used a pick on my bass for the first time ever at the weekend. I was learning an old Crusaders track and it sounded like a pick was being used. I grabbed my big fat dunlop jazz guitar pick and was surprised how easy it was. And it nailed the tone. Previously if i wanted to get that kind of tone i use the tips of my nails and/or use the q switch on my alembic which emphasises the attack of the note.

OP has stated couple of times that due to some injury he can't use a pick, so either read the damn thread or quit being an ass.

I think a compressor with an attack might get you close enough. Maybe some light grit to top end of your tone. I've also heard good things about that aforementioned EHX Steel Leather.

Unfortunately, my life as a woodworker has left me with hands that are somewhat damaged and painful in old age; playing with a pick hurts.

Depending on how severe the damage is, it may not be an option; but it may be worth checking Bryan Beller's technique to sound pick-ish without a pick. Even if you can't play fast, the basic idea should be usable in any style of music.

Another vote for the EHX Steel Leather here. Does the job to give you that little bit of omph that a pick adds.

Agreed.
However, TB tip : use the "Thread tools" > "Who replied?" feature to isolate OP's posts and additional info provided in a given thread when you don't feel like reading the whole thing, which is understandable.
