Is there a sawtooth fuzz in a box yet?

I think the Subterranean by Iron Ether would be a good start too.

It’s not a thick sounding fuzz on its own but definitely does the sawtooth thing well

I've never really been impressed with the demos I've seen of the Subterrenean. It also had that low-fi, almost 8-bit, sound and was kinda messy. Much prefer the fatter, cleaner sound of the FI. I just wish the FI tracked sounds without any kind of envelope in them better. The sounds with an envelope dialed in the filter track great! Take that envelope out and it becomes temperamental.

I've got a Meris Enzo on the way (despite it being a pitch tracking synth pedal and not a dedicated fuzz), since I know and have heard it do what I want, and despite the mixed reviews on here in regards to the tracking, the fact that it clearly labels how to turn the envelope off on the pedal itself gives me hope that the tracking was designed with that type of sound in mind. If not, and it doesn't track any better or worse, then I made sure to get it from somewhere with a good refund policy and will send it back.

I still would like if a dedicated fuzz pedal could get close, since it already sounds so similar to a fuzz. The Doom 2 certainly is close. If it had a little more bite/more of that choppy buzzsaw like sound, I probably would have already bought one. Maybe need to look for something like a gated octave-up fuzz. Sort of like a cross between a Mastotron and Doom 2, where it still has those higher pitched harmonics but with a pinch knob to make it tighter.

@johnk_10, @rratajski, you’re the resident fuzz pedal builders here I know of (am I missing any?). In your professional experience would something like this be possible? See the first post for an example.

I’ve heard so many fuzzes that are close but not quite there, and it sounds so similar to a fuzz already that I can’t help but think something like this is possible. Something like a gated fuzz (Mastotron, Woolly Mammoth, etc) but with a higher pitched harmonic range instead of the crackling mid focued sound the gated fuzzes tend to have when the gate is increased to get that kind of buzz saw sputtering sound. Or like the SGFX Sasori (specifically, as opposed to other Shin-Ei variants) but with a much tighter fuzz sound instead of the unbridled splotchy messy sound it tends to have. Or like a (You’re) Doom 2 with more of that same choppy buzz saw sputter that gated fuzzes have. And when I refer to a stutter, I’m thinking more a smooth(ish) pulsating sound rather than a harsh broken kind of sound common in gated fuzzes.

I really don’t even know the first things about making fuzz pedals, so I might be completely off my mark here. But I can’t shake my gut feeling like it’s possible. Maybe not a pure sawtooth wave, but certainly something that sounds a lot like one.

I've never seen a fuzz marketed as just sawtooth and wouldn't know how to make one myself.
I worry about my speakers when I use the sawtooth wave on the Moog Freqbox. Have you tried that?
