Is there a way to mount a pickguard with no Screws?

Is there a way to mount a pickguard with no Screws? Like with a certain kind of tape.

I just don't want to drill holes in the body because I might be changing the kind of pickguard style in the future.

I always thought it would be neat to put magnets in a body and have them align with a pickguard,. However, I don't think your building from scratch so I don't think that would work for you.

No I'm not building but that is a really cool Idea!, But would it interfere with the Pickups?

Typically, an adhesive strong enough to hold the pickguard securely would damage the finish, and an adhesive gentle enough to the finish would lack strength. You might try many small dots of sticky tack, as suggested by Beej. Magnets would only be an option if your pickguard(s) were ferrous.

If your pickguard design is smallish, with the pickup more-or-less centered, then you may be able to devise an attachment point or two that would be hidden or masked by the presence of the pickup itself. Like a pickguard extension that could be screwed into the pickup cavity, or something.

I've done it with carpet tape from the hardware store. Works great, comes off when you want it to.

I use 3M Scotch Removable Double Sided Tape. Comes in a dispenser that looks just like regular tape, yellow plaid instead of green. I've been using it for a couple months to change pickguards on my 5502 Skyline and it does absolutely no damage to the finish.

I would be worried that sticky tack would stain the finish if left on for long enough...

A luthier once told me to use a small blob of silicone sealant, like what plumbers use.

Holds the guard, and peels off leaving no marks, easily.

Use cheap double-stick tape that won't marr the finish - and just live with re-sticking it every so often.

What I said about the magnets earlier would of course have to have corresponding magnets in the pickguard.

How do you magnetize plastic pickguards?

The pickguard itself doesn't need to be magnetized, just to have some ferrous material on the same locations as the magnets are.

By mounting 2 or 3mm neodymium magnets on the spots where the screw holes usually are in the body, and sinking 5mm or so steel discs on the back of the pickguard, one could swap the pickguards almost on the fly.
