So I was working in a music store when Spinal Tap hit the theatres. All the musicians I knew were nuts for it, and we were getting questions if we would get any '11' amps.
Well, no. But . . .
DiMarzio marketed parts as well as pickups, and they added plastic Fender knobs that were numbered up to '11' as a gag add-on to your Strat, etc.
So one of the local hotshots comes in, sees them and freaks out. He brought his guitar in, we swapped 'em, had a good laugh and he left. Only the knobs, nothing else on a well-adjusted axe he played 6 nights a week.
The following is completely true and the name(s) have been withheld because. . . well, you know.
He comes back in a few weeks later saying that somehow, his guitar just sounds, well, different somehow.
? ? ?
'Shouldn't we have put new pots in with them?'
I'm trying not to pee myself I'm holding back from horse-laughing in his face.
'You know, DMZ sent us the knobs but the '11 pots' are back-ordered. Want me to call you when we get them?'
He went home happy.
