Is there any bass that compares to a spector at a fraction the price?

Years ago when I lived at home and had money to burn, i happened upon a used euro spector for $900. I loved it instantly. The only problem is I've been playing this bass for over 20 years and haven't found a backup that plays and sounds as good IMHO. My backup basses have come and gone all too quickly. I want to retire my spector for the time being to save it from wear and tear, but I haven't found a suitable replacement for fraction of the cost. Any suggestions?

Yes, the European Select Deans made in 1998, 1999 and 2000
@NicJimBass owns a few 5 string versions and I own two 4 string versions
They were Czech made and made in the same factory as the Czech made Spectors.
European Select Series:
Egde Improv
Edge Select
Edge Custom

Edge Select

Best kept secret out there.
I own both of these. Both Czech made and both neck through.

I did own a spector legend 5 string at one point. I bought it used, not sure how old it was, but it was in rough shape. It sounded like mud no matter what I did with my settings. When I first played it, the strings were dead and I thought that was causing the moodiness. Are the newer manufactured legends brighter?

Another problem is when I bought my euro spector there were a handful of family owned guitar shops in my area. They usually carried a wide variety of bass equipment. But, since a guitar center opened many of these shops closed down and the selection is limited. It's mostly squire and epiphone around here. The only interesting equipment I see is in the used section. Haha.
