Is there such a thing as a "lightweight" Stingray 5?

It was pretty lightweight to begin with. Then I had the tuners replaced with UltraLights, and had the neck pickup removed.

What are the exact specs or product number for these? Looks like you have to drill an additional screw hole as well. I love my SR5, have had it since 1998, but my biggest complaint has always been the weight. I'm thinking these tuners plus plastic knobs could help a lot.

I already had a set of 4 of these (but with the lollipop keys) so I ordered a 5th one. The 4 I have came off a Fender so they are bass side, the 5th one I ordered is treble side. However, these tuners are reversible. You just unscrew the post and put it in the opposite side. Brilliant.

Well, I just ordered 5 of these things. Not cheap but shaving close to half a pound of the headstock should be a big improvement. I've had this bass for almost 20 years so I think it's worth the investment!

Sparkdog, have you considered plastic knobs? Does anyone know of a quality plastic knob replacement?

Warmoth - Get a lightweight G5 body from Warmoth and a neck with graphite bars. Use Hipshot Ultralite 3/8" Y tuners (not the slightly heavier clover leaf version) and an aluminum or other minimal bridge.

My 4-string with steel bars and a brass bridge came in at 8 1/4 lbs. I suspect a 5 string with the lighter graphite bars and lighter bridge would be about the same or maybe less?

Yes indeed, I put standard Jazz Bass knobs on all my instruments. They weigh nothing and it's easy to see exactly where you have volume and EQ set because of the white lines.
