So I know enough to play for my own
Entertainment .. but I am not bass techie.
Is this a bad thing, bottom windings riding on saddle...mainly the E string or is it purely aesthetics?
It is an Epiphone EB 0.

It sounds ok to me but at 70 and years of shooting sports my ears are a bit crispy.... WHAT????

Wouldn’t work for me but it will work. If you like it and it intonates ok it’s fine, just a bit less zingy.

You can carefully cut the silk back with a razor ( put a clipboard or magazine between strings and bass!) but then it’ll be ragged looking no matter what you do.

This is obviously more 'bad' than 'not bad', as there is no longer as much of a solid contact between string and saddle. The 'squashiness' of the wrap will affect vibration transfer to/from the bass so affect tone, and reduce sustain. Not a big effect but significant.
Having the core lock-windings over the saddle is also a little bad.
This bridge is very very poorly designed, no string will be compatible.
