It does not get much better than that insofar as compliments from drummers go. If you are going to rage just do it for the fun of it not because he slagged you because I don't think he did.

Honestly that's so obvious that it's a compliment, it leaves me wondering...."what sort of facial expression was he wearing when he said it?" (in other words, why do you doubt it's a compliment?)

These are pretty much summed up compliments you are going to get from other musicians:

Guitarist: I love your tone.
Drummer: You are so easy to work with.
Singer: Hey that's a cool looking bass.

So yeah you got a compliment. Enjoy it.

For a bass player I think it means you keep good time, don't overplay, and are generally easy going or at least a good team player. All good attributes.

It was a huge, nasty INSULT! If he said it to me, I would punch him in the face, and say, "I'll give you easy, you evil piece of carp!" and then I would go off my meds, and run around the room laughing insanely, sort of like vintage Daffy Duck. I would add, "if I wanted to be EASY, I would play with your momma!"

Of course it's a compliment.

OP here with a follow-up; We had practice again last night and he asked if I had any interest in getting something going together. An unexpected outcome of some coworkers getting together to jam for a work event. We're both currently in bands so we'll see what comes of it but it certainly is a confidence booster.
