Is This a Good Deal???

Hay Folks,

I went by the pawn shop today and saw a Peavey
Fury. I paid $75 plus tax = $81.75,

The neck is almost perfect, but there is a irritating
rattle in the head stock.

Is this a good deal???

I mean you wont make a killing in profit if you re-sell it but I would pay that for it and would have bought it, with some cleaning up I would say its worth about 200-250$.

That bass will play and sound better than most Fenders of that era, which would run you 10 times what you paid for that Peavey.

I second that.

I played a Fury not too long ago, the neck was pretty nice. The one I played was in dire need of a setup, but it had the potential to be pretty good. I say, for that price, it's good.

I actually picked one up with a maple neck for 70 recently from a pawn shop. I think it sounds and plays great. Some dings in the paint but I lucked out and no stickers on mine. I'm not into stickers on instruments.

And the rattling may be comming from the tuners. One of mine was loose where the clover met the tuning peg. I had a spare sliver of foam I put in the offending part and all was better. (maybe not the most professional fix but good enough for who it's for.)

Threw some flatwounds on mine and yes....worth 70-80 bucks IMO.

I FOUND THA RATTLE!!!

It was tha handle on tha "A" string tuner,

I took a big pair of channel lock pliers and
squeezed it real hard and it quit rattling.

I cleaned it up and took tha stickers off it. I
put some black paint on the nicks. You can
still see them. But it is not noticeable. It has
a few belt buckle scratches, but not too bad.

Here's how she looks now,

I played it. I really like it. I didn't realize it at
the pawn shop, but this bass has the thinnest
neck I have ever played,

I feel a lot better about her now... Especially
finding that rattle,,,,

She is definitely female. So graceful and beautiful,
yet bold and powerful.

Yeah mine was on the G string tuner. I was considering putting hip shot ultra lights on mine because of the slight neck dive. Then I remembered it's a 70 dollar bass and the neck dive doesn't bother me that much. Small sliver of foam for me.

I used to keep a few basses like this around for students to use (and occasionally buy at cost).

Oh, yeah. Good deal indeed. I bought one for about that. Stripped the black (maple neck on mine) and refinished it. One of my favorite basses.

I think I'm gonna keep this one.

This is my second Peavey bass. The first one
was a Patriot I got in the mid 1980's. My son
put stickers on it. It has a wider neck than a
P bass and has just one pick-up that is closer
to the bridge than a Rick. It is built like a truck.

It took me years to really like it. But I really
like it with a big amp and speakers.

It has punch,

I have been buying stuff from this guy for years.

He has made enough money off me,,,,

I guess he just felt sorry for me and let me have it.

He said " I don't know why I'm selling this to you
for that. I usually get $200 for them"

He just wants to keep me comin in,

Those inexpensive Peaveys are almost ALWAYS worth the dinero.
I say "almost" because in the past year I've seen 2 Foundations that had necks that Robin Hood could've used. One was at a pawn shop so you cant expect them to know much about what they're doing, but the other was at a decent regional northeast chain that deals heavily in used gear. I was pretty shocked to see they wanted $150 for theirs.

I agree... It an't like a US Fender P.

But,,,, I love it. It is a great toy for
me. It will end up in a young player's
hands before long.

I do like it better than a bass I paid
$570 for over 20 years ago.
