Is this a legit 1976 Precision Bass?

Me back when with my new ‘80 Crimson Red Transparent. I’m thinking the OP’s bass is Walnut (if it’s original finish).

Sweet. My avatar is a CRT J that someone swapped on a P neck. Both are 1973 stamped.

Thank you all for your comments and guidance, sadly I just have been contacted by the seller to tell me that he already sold the bass. I thought we had an agreement to close the deal today after inspecting the bass, but seems like he sold it to someone he knew. My search for a 70s P continues...

76 is a tricky year with serial numbers and Fender. I only know because I own one. There are 3 versions I know of:
1. Six digits XXXXXX
2. 76_XXXXX
3. S6_XXXXX

I have #2 version on headstock face.
Really need to go by pots on this one.

Mine is also the #2 version with pot codes and pickups all saying 1976.

I think the seller was quite sketchy with the "it's all original" claim and then the "it's all original except for this" claim and then selling it to someone else after a tentative deal was made.

Likely, the only thing not original was the pickguard. Even if the pots and pickups were replaced (which I doubt), anything in the $1200-$1500 range would have been good deal.

The only way to be sure is check the serial #. Fender serial number decoder, find the date of a Fender guitar by serial number No serial #, I would tell the seller he can't prove it's actually a '76.
