Is this a legit 1976 Precision Bass?

Hi all!

Just came across this one in the local classifieds, owner says it's 1976 all original Fender Precision. It doesn't have the pickup covers nor case.

I'm not an expert by any means in vintage Fenders, so if you can help me a little it will be much appreciated.

I'm no expert either but there are no holes for the pickup cover or thumb rest so at lest the pickguard is not original.

I spotted the same, seller says he means all electronics (pups, pots, wiring), neck, body and hardware are original...

Guard would have been black even if everything else is original.

I would most definitely ask for pictures of the electronics, neck and neck pocket. All original doesn't mean all original except for...

I spent a good deal of time playing a 76 PB. The only thing I see looking odd is the pick guard seems a little thin, possibly and after market addition.

The other is those basses came with both pick up and bridge covers. You can see the holes for the bridge cover cover, but holes for the pick up cover may be covered by this aftermarket pick guard. I’d take a peek underneath and make sure those holes are there.

Other than that look ok to me.

I'm thinking it's a refin. Those pictures could be better. Neck, tuners, neckplate look legit.

Looks good to me. Headstock, truss plug, etc. And is that Crimson Red Transparent? The secret agent of all Fender colors?!?! I love that color.
I wouldn't care at all about the pick guard. If it plays good and you are happy with the price it looks nice.

Why do so many sellers of legit vintage basses not go ahead and pull the neck and pick guard instead of waiting to be asked?

It can probably be sold without pulling the neck most of the time.

Looks legit to me. The pickguard should be a three ply I think.
